How do I setup Windows95/98 to use my Big Sky Telecom dialup account?

Step 1 Make sure that Dial-Up Networking is installed on your machine, if it is not, you must install it BEFORE you can setup your Big Sky Telecom dialup access.  If Dial-Up Networking is already installed, double click the My Computer icon on your desktop.  You should see a window pop up that is similar to the figure 1.

Step 2 Double click the Dial-Up Networking icon.  If you have never setup a Dial-Up Networking connection you will see a window pop up that is exactly like figure 2.  (If you already have dialup connections configured you will see a Dial-Up Networking window on screen like figure 6.  Double click the Make New Connection icon and continue to step 3.)

Step 3 Click the Next button and you will see a window pop up that is similar to figure 3.  Enter the name of your connection, Big Sky Telecom, and then click the Next button. 

(Please notice that your screen may look a bit different based on the modem you have installed in your system.  The modem in the system used in this example is a U.S. Robotics 56K Voice Win modem, yours may differ.)

Step 4 When you see this screen type in the telephone number for the Big Sky Telecom dialup access service.  The phone number is 581-9975.  If you have call waiting, type in *70,581-9975 to disable call waiting while you are dialed into the system.
 Click the Next button.

Step 5 If you named your connection Big Sky Telecom, you should see a screen that looks exactly like figure 5.

Click the Finish button.

Step 6 A Dial-Up Networking window should now be on your desktop similar to figure 6.  Right-click on the connection icon you just created and select Properties from the drop-down menu.  (In the case of this example the icon to right-click would be the Big Sky Telecom icon.)

 Step 7 Make sure that the properties for your connection icon match the properties checked in figure 7 exactly.  Right mouse click the Big Sky Telecom icon, left click on properties, then left click on “servers type” tab.  If other checkmarks exist, please uncheck them and leave exactly like figure 7.  Click the Ok button and close out.

Step 8 Double click the Big Sky Telecom icon that you created and you should see a screen similar to figure 8.  In the User name: field type in username in lowercase letters.  In the Password: field type in your password in lowercase.  If you do not want to type in your password each time you dial into Big Sky Telecom click the Save password checkbox.  Click Connect.

Next you should see connecting to Big Sky Telecom, then you are signed on message!
